What strategies have worked for you in building your team's decision-making confidence?
Your team members are hesitant to make decisions. How can you build their confidence? What strategies have worked for you in building your team's decision-making confidence?
Building a team’s decision-making confidence requires creating an environment of psychological safety, where team members feel supported even if their decisions lead to mistakes. I encourage open discussions, emphasizing that mistakes are learning opportunities, not failures. Delegating decisions gradually, starting with smaller, low-risk ones, allows them to practice and gain confidence. I also provide clear frameworks or criteria for decision-making to guide them and regularly recognize their successful choices to reinforce positive behavior. Sharing my own decision-making process transparently, including challenges and uncertainties, helps them see that even experienced leaders don’t have all the answers but can still move forward effectively.
